"As companies like BMW, IBM, Novartis and others are discovering, swarm businesses require a completely new corporate mindset. Specifically, to reap the benefits of swarm innovation, companies must (1) gain power by giving it away, (2) share with the swarm and (3) concentrate on the swarm, not on making money. Although these principles differ from the traditional ways of doing business in a number of fundamental ways, they are crucial for companies to succeed in this emerging era of increased collaboration among innovators both inside and outside the organization."

Wow, after three years I step across something that has been my MAIN driver of acting, learning and sharing knowledge.
Working for BMW for a couple of years while they brought their new plant in Leipzig in 2005 into production made me aware what is really possible in mature organizations.
BMW an almost 100 year-old company opened up to an experiment where OpenCollaboration is the main driver of succes: Zaha Hadid's central building at BMW Leipzig. It acts as the ateria of a large blood circulation. The blood - knowledge owned by the hundreds of workers - flows pretty free over the elevated areas where about 700 people are working in an OpenSpace office space.
Just awesome - structure opens new behavior:
Sharing knoweledge and rise productivity, creativity and well-being.
I am looking forward to seeing similar at the various CoWorking Spaces that spring up now in the region around Leipzig, Dresden and Saxony. Here in Dresden, the LockSchuppen, http://twitter.com/LockSchuppen, is in operation for about two months now.
Sometimes really tine places, like the office of the LockSchuppen creates the space where new ideas emerge into existence creating more value as people could create working on their own.
That is what I call Swarm Business:-))
